Description
The Apley Well-being Anti-bug Memory 1000 is a pocket sprung mattress with a memory foam comfort layer and a knitted anti-bug cover. It is the entry point to our Well-being range and is aimed at two kinds of sleeper: people with dust-mite allergies who want a cover treated to inhibit mites and bacteria, and people who like the gentle, contouring feel of memory foam but do not want to lose the support and airflow of springs underneath.
What is inside
The support core is a unit of individual pocket springs, named the 1000 after the count in a king. The exact count scales with the width: 627 in a single, 832 in a small double, 928 in a double, 1,056 in a king and 1,254 in a super king. Each spring sits in its own fabric pocket, so it compresses on its own rather than dragging its neighbours down with it. In practice that means less roll-together for couples and less disturbance when one of you turns over.
Above the springs sits a 45mm layer of body-contouring memory foam. It softens under body heat and pressure, easing the load on shoulders and hips, then recovers once you move. The whole mattress is 27cm deep, finished with a traditional three-tier border for edge support and flag-stitched handles for positioning. It is a non-turn design: rotate it head-to-foot every few weeks for the first three months, then every couple of months, but there is no need to flip it.
The cover is a soft knitted anti-bug fabric, micro-quilted to the top layer. It is treated to inhibit dust mites, bed bugs and bacteria, which helps keep the sleeping surface fresher and less likely to aggravate allergies. It is not a substitute for a washable mattress protector, which we still recommend.

UK king and EU king are not the same. A UK king is 150cm wide; what IKEA and most European brands call a king is 160cm. A UK king mattress will leave a 10cm gap in an EU king frame, and an EU king mattress will not fit a UK king frame at all. This mattress is UK sized, so if your bed frame came from a European brand, measure the inside of the frame before you order.

More springs generally means finer, more individual support. If allergies are the priority and you sleep alone or at a normal weight, the 1000 is the sensible choice. Will it fit my bed?
It sits on any divan base or slatted bed frame in the matching UK size. On a slatted frame, slats no more than about 7–8cm apart give the springs even support. At 27cm deep it suits most frames and divans, but check the depth allowance on high-sided frames, cabin beds and bunk beds before ordering.

Delivery is free to mainland England and mainland Wales, including Anglesey. We do not deliver to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight or the Isles of Scilly. This mattress is made for your order by our UK manufacturing partner, so once you have ordered, the delivery day is booked directly with you rather than left to chance. Is this mattress suitable for allergy sufferers?
That is what it is designed for. The knitted cover is treated to inhibit dust mites, bed bugs and bacteria, which are common allergy triggers. Pair it with a washable protector and wash bedding at 60°C for the best result.
How many springs does each size have?
627 in a single, 832 in a small double, 928 in a double, 1,056 in a king and 1,254 in a super king. Wider mattresses carry more springs so the support stays just as fine across the whole surface.
How firm is it?
It is rated medium. The pocket springs provide the underlying support and the 45mm memory foam softens the surface, so most back and side sleepers find it comfortable. If you want something noticeably firmer, choose an orthopaedic model.
Do I need to turn it?
No. It is a non-turn mattress. Rotate it head-to-foot regularly so it wears evenly, but do not flip it over.
Will a UK king fit my IKEA bed?
Not properly. Most IKEA and European beds use the EU king size of 160 x 200cm, while this king is the UK size of 150 x 200cm. Measure the inside of your frame first and see the size guide above.
Does memory foam sleep hot?
Thick all-foam mattresses can. Here the memory foam is a 45mm layer over a pocket spring core, and the springs let air move through the mattress, so it sleeps cooler than an all-foam model. If you always run warm, the Kool Memory 1500 is built with that in mind.
