Description
Ultra-firm support on 1200 individual pocket springs
The Jay-Be Flex 1200 Pocket is the pocket-sprung version of Jay-Be’s Ultra-Firm mattress. Underneath a deep-quilted knitted cover sit four fibre comfort layers and a unit of 1200 individually wrapped springs, tuned for firm, even support rather than a soft, sinking feel. There is no foam anywhere inside it. The mattress is 23 cm deep, is made in the UK and comes vacuum-packed and rolled with a 10-year manufacturer guarantee.
Choose it if you want a genuinely firm bed but share it with someone. Because each spring is in its own fabric pocket, it reacts to the weight above it rather than pulling its neighbours down, so one person turning over is felt far less on the other side than on an open-coil mattress. That makes it a strong choice for couples, for heavier sleepers who find ordinary mattresses dip, and for anyone who prefers a flat, supportive surface.
What is inside, from the top down
- Deep-quilted knitted cover made with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified fabric, channel-quilted so the sleeping surface stays smooth.
- Advance e-Fibre™, a thin top layer that takes the edge off the firmness.
- Firm e-Fibre™, which keeps you lying on the mattress rather than in it.
- Breathable rebound e-Fibre™, which springs back quickly when you change position.
- High-density (HD) e-Fibre™ insulator, a dense pad over the springs so you never feel individual coils.
- Ultra-Firm 1200 pocket spring unit, the support core, with each spring working independently.
- HD e-Fibre™ foundation layer under the springs, adding stability on a slatted frame, a divan or an ottoman base.
A ventilated 3D mesh border runs around the sides, letting air move in and out as you move. Together with the all-fibre fillings, this means the Flex 1200 sleeps cooler than a foam mattress and lets moisture escape overnight. The fire-retardant treatment is natural and salt-based, and the materials are hypoallergenic, odourless and described by Jay-Be as vegan-friendly.
Who it suits, and who it does not
- Couples who want a firm mattress without feeling every movement their partner makes.
- Back and front sleepers who need their hips held in line with their shoulders.
- Heavier sleepers who have worn a dip into softer mattresses.
- Warm sleepers and anyone avoiding memory foam.
- People with allergies or sensitivities who prefer hypoallergenic, foam-free fillings.
If you sleep mainly on your side and like to sink in at the shoulder and hip, an ultra-firm mattress is usually not the right choice; a medium or medium-firm model will be kinder. We cannot give medical advice. If you have a back condition, ask your GP or physiotherapist which firmness they recommend.
Flex 1200 Pocket or another Jay-Be mattress?
The Jay-Be Flex Ultra-Firm Sprung has the same ultra-firm feel on an open sprung unit. It is 21 cm deep and costs less, but it transfers more movement between sleepers, so it suits a single sleeper or a spare room. The Ryze 800 Pocket Sprung also uses pocket springs but has a medium-firm, more cushioned feel. For firm support with more pocket springs and a hybrid build, compare the TrueCore Firm Hybrid 2200. Of these, the Flex 1200 Pocket is the firmest pocket-sprung option.

Unrolling and looking after it
Take the rolled mattress to the bedroom and place it on the bed base before opening it, because it expands quickly. Cut the outer wrapping with care so you do not nick the cover, then let it unroll. It will be usable within a few hours, but allow 24 to 48 hours in a ventilated room for it to reach its full depth and feel. Rotate it head to foot every couple of weeks for the first three months, then every two months. A breathable mattress protector keeps the cover clean and helps protect your guarantee.
Delivery
Free delivery to mainland England and mainland Wales, including Anglesey, by courier to your door. The rolled pack is easy to carry through narrow hallways and up tight stairs. We do not deliver to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight or the Isles of Scilly.
Frequently asked questions
How firm is the Flex 1200 Pocket?
Jay-Be rates it Ultra-Firm, its firmest rating and a step above its Firm-rated models. A thin fibre layer on top gives a little surface comfort, but the overall feel is flat and supportive. Allow a week or two to adjust if you are coming from a medium mattress.
What is the difference between the Flex 1200 Pocket and the Flex Ultra-Firm Sprung?
Both are ultra-firm and foam-free. The 1200 Pocket uses individually wrapped springs and a ventilated mesh border and is 23 cm deep, so it isolates movement better and breathes more freely. The sprung version is 21 cm deep, uses an open spring unit and is the lower-priced option.
Is it good for couples?
Yes. Pocket springs move independently, so a partner getting in or out of bed disturbs you far less than on an open-coil mattress, and the firm edge-to-edge support stops the two of you rolling towards the middle.
Does it contain memory foam?
No. Every layer is e-Fibre™ fibre filling around the pocket spring unit. There is no memory foam or reflex foam in it.
Will it fit my bed frame?
It fits any standard UK single, small double, double or king frame, divan or ottoman of the matching size. At 23 cm deep it is too deep for bunk beds and most high sleepers, which need a thinner mattress so the guard rail stays effective.
