Description
The Apley Sia is an ottoman bed frame — the whole base lifts to reveal storage underneath the full footprint of the mattress.
That is a great deal of storage in a room that has none. An ottoman holds what a chest of drawers cannot: spare duvets, suitcases, winter coats, the things that otherwise fill a wardrobe or a loft. In a small bedroom it often removes the need for a second piece of furniture entirely.
Sizes available
This bed frame is made in 4 sizes. UK bed sizes are standard, so these are the dimensions you can expect:
- Single 3ft — 90 x 190 cm (3’0” x 6’3”)
- Small Double 4ft — 120 x 190 cm (4’0” x 6’3”)
- Double 4ft 6 — 135 x 190 cm (4’6” x 6’3”)
- King 5ft — 150 x 200 cm (5’0” x 6’6”)
Before you order
Two measurements matter with an ottoman. First the ceiling: the base lifts high, so check there is nothing above the bed — a sloping ceiling, a low light fitting, a shelf — that would stop it opening fully. Second the wall behind, since most ottoman frames need a small gap to clear the headboard as the base rises.
The Sia opens from the foot rather than the side, so leave clear floor at the end of the bed — enough to stand and lift. A bed pushed hard against a footboard wall or a radiator will open, but not comfortably, and an ottoman you cannot open easily stops getting used.

Frequently asked questions
Is a mattress included with the Sia?
No. The Sia is sold as the bed frame with its ottoman base and headboard. Choose a mattress in the matching size: 90 x 190cm for the single, 120 x 190cm for the small double, 135 x 190cm for the double or 150 x 200cm for the king.
How does the ottoman storage open?
It opens from the foot end. Two gas-lift hydraulic arms take the weight of the mattress, so you lift the slatted platform with one hand and it holds itself open while you reach in. Leave clear floor space at the foot of the bed so you can stand there and lift.
How long is the Sia bed overall?
211cm on every size. That is about 20cm longer than the mattress, because the headboard and the padded frame add to the length. Measure your room along the bed as well as across it.
Does the Sia need assembling?
Yes. It arrives flat-packed for self-assembly with fixings and instructions. Two people make the job easier, particularly when fitting the gas-lift arms and lifting the platform into place.
Which size suits a small bedroom?
The single (102cm wide) and small double (132cm wide) suit box rooms and guest rooms. Because the whole base is storage, the Sia often lets you drop a chest of drawers, which frees floor space in a small room.
