The Erin chair is built around one idea: a chair you sink into rather than perch on. Its back rises into soft, gently flared wings that curve forward to meet thick, rounded arms, so the whole frame wraps around you like a cupped hand. Every surface is fully upholstered, front, sides and back, and the chair sits low and solid on four round wooden bun feet. It is a modern take on the classic wingback, with the hard edges smoothed away and the comfort turned up.

Erin is a new chair from Kyoto, the upholstery and sofa bed specialist behind many of our best-selling pieces, and it comes in two tactile fabrics: a fleecy Natural Teddy and a flecked Natural Textured Chunky Boucle. Both bring texture and warmth to a room, which makes it a natural choice for a reading corner or bedroom as the evenings draw in.

Design and comfort

The seat is generously cushioned and deep, giving a relaxed, lounging sit rather than an upright dining-chair posture. The rounded arms are broad enough to rest a forearm along their full length, and the winged back gives your head and shoulders something to lean into when you settle in with a book. The overall footprint is a compact 76cm wide and 80cm deep, so Erin gives the feel of a big, enveloping armchair without the bulk of a full-size recliner.

At 83.5cm high, the back is tall enough to frame the chair as a feature in a room but low enough to sit in front of a window without blocking the light. The round bun feet lift the chair just clear of the floor, which keeps it easy to vacuum around and adds a soft, slightly retro detail that suits Scandi, Japandi, cottage and modern rustic schemes alike.

Choose your fabric

• Natural Teddy: a dense, curly borg fabric in a warm cream-natural tone. It is the softest option to the touch and gives the chair a cosy, sheepskin-like look that works beautifully against pale walls, oak floors and chunky knitted throws.
• Natural Textured Chunky Boucle: a nubbly looped weave in a mix of oatmeal, stone and soft grey. It reads as a natural, earthy neutral and hides everyday marks well, which makes it the practical pick for a busy living room or a home with pets.

To care for either fabric, vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment to lift dust from the pile, keep the chair out of strong direct sunlight to avoid fading, and blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing. Teddy and boucle can both be gently brushed by hand to revive the texture.

• Living room: as an occasional chair angled beside a sofa, or as a matching pair either side of a fireplace or coffee table.
• Reading nook: tucked into a corner with a floor lamp and a small side table for a mug.

Delivery is free to mainland England and mainland Wales, including Anglesey. We do not deliver to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight or the Isles of Scilly. Erin is a brand-new launch: Kyoto expect their first delivery of both fabrics on 4 November 2026, and orders placed now are reserved from that delivery and dispatched as soon as it arrives. At 16kg the chair is light enough for one person to move into place, and at 76cm wide it should pass through a standard internal doorway, but please measure tight hallways and stair turns before ordering.
