Tulip Swivel Tub Chair

A tub chair on a swivel base, fully upholstered with no exposed frame — the simplest form this kind of chair takes, and at 67 by 68 centimetres one of the smallest.

That size is the reason to buy it. Most swivel chairs are substantial pieces that commit a corner of a room. The Tulip is small enough to sit in a bedroom, a home office, a landing or the gap beside a window, and because the back and arms form one continuous curve there are no protruding arms to catch on anything as you pass.

Three chenilles: Leto Natural, Olive and Terracotta. The terracotta is the interesting one — a warm, saturated tone that does something in a room that neither of the neutrals will.

Before you order

A swivel chair needs room to turn. Allow the width of the chair plus a few centimetres all round, and do not wedge it into a corner where it can only face one way — that defeats the point of buying one.

At 71 centimetres high this is a low chair. It is designed for sitting into rather than sitting up in, which makes it a good reading or dressing chair and a poor desk chair.

Caring for chenille

Chenille is a pile fabric — short tufts in a woven base — soft to the touch and good at disguising light marks. The pile flattens where it is used most. Vacuum weekly with a soft upholstery head, brush the pile back one way if it looks patchy, and blot spills rather than rubbing.
