Ella Tub Chair

A tub chair is one continuous curve — back and arms formed from the same sweep rather than assembled as separate pieces. That shape does two things. It wraps around you, which is why tub chairs feel enclosing in a way a flat-backed armchair does not. And it has no protruding arms, which means it takes up less floor than its seat width suggests.

The Ella sits on a contrasting antique wood plinth with elegant legs, which is the detail that lifts it. Most tub chairs sit low and heavy on stubby feet; raising the tub on a visible timber base gives it daylight underneath and stops it reading as a barrel on the floor.

Three finishes, doing three jobs. Leto Natural woven chenille is the soft, quiet option. Distressed Olive chenille is the colour choice. Achilles Brown PU is faux leather — wipeable, which makes it the practical answer for a dining chair, a home office, or a house with dogs.

Where it works

At 75 centimetres square it is compact enough for a bedroom corner or a bay window, and the enclosing shape makes it a natural reading chair. In brown PU it also works as a desk chair or round a dining table, which chenille would not.

Caring for it

Chenille: vacuum weekly with a soft head, brush the pile one way if it looks patchy, blot spills rather than rubbing. Faux leather: wipe with a damp cloth. Keep PU out of sustained direct sunlight, which makes any faux leather brittle over time.

Questions people ask

Is the brown option real leather? No — it is PU, a faux leather. It wipes clean, which real leather does less happily.

Is a tub chair comfortable for long periods? It is enclosing rather than lounging. Good for reading, less good for dozing.

Is there a two seater? Yes — the Ella 2 Seater, in the two chenilles.

Will it tuck under a dining table? In PU it works as a dining chair; check your table height against 81.5cm.

Does it need assembly? The legs attach to the plinth.
