The Apley Clyde Corner Sofa Bed is an L-shaped corner sofa that opens into a bed for two. It is built for the room that has to do two jobs: a comfortable family sofa every evening, and a proper spare bed when guests stay, without giving a whole room over to a guest bed that stands empty most of the year.

Why a corner sofa bed

A two-seater sofa bed solves the guest problem but seats two. A corner unit seats the whole household along both arms of the L, then still converts when you need it. The Clyde comes with a separate matching stool that adds extra seating or a footrest, and multi-coloured plain scatter cushions are included. The corner is made left- or right-hand facing, so it fits the room you actually have.

How it is made

The frame combines hardwood with other materials, and every joint is glued and stapled for strength. The seat cushions are resilient high-density foam with a soft domed top layer, so they hold their shape while still feeling inviting; the back cushions are polyester fibre filled. Styling is clean and classic: wide arms, crisp piping and neat wooden feet in a light or dark showwood finish.

The bed uses a three-fold mesh action: the mechanism unfolds from inside the seat in three sections onto a mesh platform. Three-fold mechanisms generally give a longer sleeping surface than two-fold designs, and the mesh keeps the action light.

Left-hand or right-hand facing?

Stand facing the sofa as if you were looking at it from the room. If the corner section, the long return, is on your left, it is left-hand facing; if it is on your right, it is right-hand facing. Sketch the room, mark the doors, windows and radiators, and decide which wall the long side should run along. Tell us the handing you need in the order notes at checkout, or contact us before ordering, because a corner sofa is much harder to reconfigure later than a separate suite.

Before you order: measure the route in

Corner units are the hardest furniture to get into a house. Measure the narrowest point of the route: the front door, any hallway turn, the width of the stairs and the turn at the top if the room is upstairs. Measure doorways diagonally as well as straight across. Allow clear floor in front of the sofa for the bed to open fully.
