At 141 centimetres the Bianca sits in the gap between an armchair and a sofa — wide enough for two, narrow enough that it does not commit a room to being a three-piece suite. That size has a name in the trade, a love seat or a cuddle chair, and it exists because most rooms need a second seat that is not another full sofa.

A plump seat, a tufted back and traditional washed wooden legs. The tufting is what stops a wide back cushion from sagging into a hammock over time — it holds the filling in place, which is why it has been used on upholstery for two hundred years and why it is worth having rather than a plain back at this width.

Where it works

As the second seat beside a three seater, instead of a matching two — it breaks up the matched-suite look without introducing a different style. In a bay window where a sofa will not fit. Or on its own in a small sitting room as the main seat, with an armchair opposite.

Two adults fit comfortably. One adult fits with room to put their feet up sideways, which is how most of them actually get used.

Textured linen mix, and how to keep it

A linen mix carries a visible slub — a slight irregularity in the yarn — which gives it texture rather than the flat face of a synthetic. It creases where it is sat on, and in cream it shows marks a patterned fabric would hide. Vacuum weekly with a soft upholstery head, blot spills from the outside of the mark inwards and never rub. A fabric protector applied before the chair goes into use is worth more than any treatment applied afterwards.

Is it big enough for two adults? Comfortably, yes. It is a genuine two seat width rather than a wide armchair.

Will the tufted back need plumping? Far less than a plain back — that is what the tufting is for.

Will cream stay cream? With prompt spill treatment and vacuuming, yes. Apply a fabric protector before use.

Does it match the Beatrice chairs? Same cream linen family and washed wood, different design language — Bianca is traditional, Beatrice is angular.

Does it come apart for delivery? The legs detach. The body is a single piece, so measure your doorway.
