Colwell 2 Seater Sofa
The Colwell armchair — Kyoto’s best seller — widened into a two seater, with the same exposed wooden arms and curved legs. At 132 centimetres it sits between a compact two seater and a standard one: wider than the Briar at 121, narrower than the 160cm that most manufacturers call a two seater.
That width is the useful part. It seats two adults without them being shoulder to shoulder, and it still fits rooms where a full-size sofa would dominate.
Two fabrics: Gaia natural textured stripe, the classic and the more forgiving, and Antheia cream textured linen, the quieter one.
Why exposed wooden arms matter here
On a two seater, arms take more punishment than anywhere else — they are where people put drinks down, lean when they stand up, and drape themselves sideways. Fabric arms are the first thing to go shiny on a well-used sofa. Wood does not, and it can be wiped rather than cleaned.
It also keeps the visual weight down. A fully upholstered 132cm sofa reads as a block; this one reads as a piece of furniture with legs and structure, which matters in a small room.
Measure before you order
Check your narrowest doorway diagonally as well as straight across, and the turn at the top of the stairs, which is the usual obstacle rather than the door. Leave 60cm of walking space in front.
Caring for the fabric
Vacuum weekly with a soft upholstery head — grit wears upholstery, use does not. Blot spills from the outside of the mark inwards, never rub. On pale linen, a fabric protector applied before the sofa goes into service is worth more than any treatment applied afterwards.
