Description

A compact two-seater with a real small-double bed inside

The Jay-Be Urban is a modern two-seater sofa bed with clean square arms and deep, fibre-wrapped cushions. It is 165 cm wide and 85 cm deep as a sofa, so it fits a living room, study or spare room, and it opens out to a 120 x 195 cm micro e-Pocket™ sprung mattress: a proper small-double bed for two guests or one who likes room to spread out. It is handmade to order in the UK by Jay-Be in your choice of 26 fabrics, with a lifetime frame guarantee and a 5-year mattress guarantee.

Opening the bed

The Urban uses a premium three-fold mechanism that opens without removing the seat cushions, which are held in place while the bed unfolds. Pull the front rail, unfold the legs, and the bed is ready in under a minute. The bed is 225 cm long when open, so allow that much floor space in front of the back of the sofa.

The mattress

Most sofa beds hide a thin foam pad. The Urban’s mattress is 13 cm deep and built in layers: a super-soft multi-quilted knitted top, an Advance e-Fibre™ layer, breathable e-Fibre™ support layers either side of a micro e-Pocket™ spring core, and a 3D spacer fabric border that helps air circulate. The springs move independently, so it supports evenly and reduces disturbance from a partner. The mattress has a natural salt-based fire treatment and is 100% recyclable.

Fabrics

Choose from three fabric families. Luxe Velvet is a soft, rich velvet in nine shades: Charcoal, Saffron, Cedar, Airforce (the blue shown), Royal, Shiraz, Bottle Green, Mink and Steel. Cosy Chenille is a textured, tactile weave in Beam, Sketch, Dreamy, Cork, Hedge, Aqua, Cobalt, Foxy, Spice and Mauve. Brushed Twill is a tight, woven fabric with a natural wool look in Pewter, Linen, Burnt Amber, Hunter, Sky, Admiral and Smoke. Upholstery fabrics carry GreenFR® protection, a non-toxic flammability-resistant treatment.

Made to order

Each Urban is upholstered in your chosen fabric after you order, so it is not held in stock. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery.

Urban, Heritage or a snuggler?

The Jay-Be Heritage 2 Seater offers the same 26 fabrics and a pocket-sprung bed in a more traditional shape. If you only have room for an armchair, the Slim Snuggler opens to a single bed from a chair 105 cm wide. For a footstool that becomes a guest bed, see the Jay-Be Footstool Bed.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the bed?

The mattress is 120 x 195 cm, a small double. It sleeps two adults for occasional stays or one adult comfortably.

Do I need to remove the cushions to open it?

No. The mechanism keeps the seat and back cushions in place while the bed unfolds.

Is it comfortable enough to sleep on every night?

It is built for frequent guest use, with a 13 cm pocket-sprung mattress rather than a foam pad. For nightly use as a main bed, a dedicated bed frame and deeper mattress will always be more comfortable.

Can I see the fabrics before ordering?

All 26 fabrics are shown in the colour options on this page. Because each sofa is made to order, choose carefully: the fabric cannot be changed once production starts.

How long does delivery take?

Allow 4 to 6 weeks, as the sofa is upholstered after you order. Delivery itself is free to mainland England and Wales.
