Description
Maxwell corner sofa bed: a compact three-seater that sleeps two
The Maxwell corner sofa bed is built for rooms that have to work twice as hard. By day it is a clean-lined three-seat corner sofa with a deep chaise for stretching out. When guests arrive, a bed platform slides out from under the seat and meets the chaise to make a sleeping area of 124cm x 185cm. That is similar in size to a small double bed, without a spare room or a separate guest bed taking up floor space all year.
At 211cm wide it fits the wall of most living rooms, snugs and home offices, and the L-shape tucks neatly into a corner so the room keeps its open feel. It is one of the newest designs from Kyoto, voted Best Sofa Bed Supplier in the Furniture News Readers’ Choice awards 2026.
Design and comfort
The Maxwell keeps the look simple and modern. Three loose back cushions sit above three generously filled seat cushions, framed by square track arms and finished on short black feet that lift the sofa just enough to show off the floor. The low, boxy outline suits contemporary and Scandi-style rooms as easily as a more traditional space softened with throws and a textured rug.
The chaise runs the full depth of the sofa at 154cm, so you can sit upright with your legs out or curl up for a film. Because the seat line is continuous from the sofa into the chaise, nobody gets stuck on an awkward join, and the whole piece reads as one calm block of colour in the room.
Two chenille colours
Both colours are upholstered in Dionysus chenille, a soft fabric with a fine, slightly textured weave that feels warm to the touch and gives the colour a gentle depth.
- Dionysus Moss Chenille: a muted sage green that pairs with natural wood, cream walls, rattan and brass. Ideal if you want colour without anything loud.
- Dionysus Taupe Chenille: a soft stone-grey neutral that sits with almost any scheme, from warm oak floors to cool grey walls.
How the bed works
There are no folding metal mechanisms to wrestle with. Pull the two fabric straps at the front of the seat and the bed platform slides forward until it is level with the chaise. The seat cushions stay in place, so making the bed takes seconds: add a fitted sheet, a duvet and pillows and it is ready. To put it away, push the platform back under the seat and the sofa is back in use.
The sleeping area is 124cm wide and 185cm long, which comfortably takes two adults for an overnight stay or one person for a longer visit. Leave clear floor in front of the sofa so the platform can come all the way out.
