Description
Sutton Coffee Table
The Sutton is a low, solid mango wood coffee table by Kyoto. Its top is 120 x 60cm with no straight edges, it stands on wide oval legs, and the whole table has a warm wood finish. It shares its design with the Sutton Lamp Table. Scaled up, it becomes the centre of a seating arrangement rather than an accent beside it.
A deliberately low table
At 35cm tall, the Sutton is noticeably low. That’s about five centimetres below a typical coffee table. The low height is deliberate, and it suits a particular kind of room: deep sofas, low seating, feet up.
A good rule of thumb is a table top level with your sofa seat, or a few centimetres below it. Most deep, modern sofas have a seat height of 40 to 45cm, and the Sutton sits comfortably under that.
If your sofa has a high, upright seat and you like to work or eat from the table, it will feel too low. The 45cm Bentley Parquet Coffee Table is the better fit.
Why the rounded edges matter
On a lamp table, soft corners are a nicety. On a 120cm coffee table in the middle of a walkway, they’re the difference between a bruise and a bang. That’s worth weighing if there are small children in the house, or if the route from the door to the sofa passes the table.
Sizing it to your sofa
- A coffee table generally looks best at about half to two-thirds the length of the sofa in front of it. At 120cm, the Sutton suits a three-seater or a corner sofa.
- Leave about 40 to 45cm between the table and the sofa, so you can reach a cup without stretching but still walk past your knees.
- For a two-seater or a smaller room, the Remy Coffee Table or the Casey Coffee Table take up less floor.

Caring for mango wood
Mango is a dense hardwood with a lively grain, so no two Sutton tops look exactly alike. Look after it as you would any solid timber:
- Use coasters under hot or wet cups.
- Wipe spills straight away; blot them rather than rubbing.
- Dust with a soft, dry cloth.
- Keep the table away from radiators and direct heat, which can dry the wood.

Questions people ask
Is 35cm too low?
It suits deep, low sofas with a seat height of 40 to 45cm. Against a high-seated sofa it will feel far away. Choose the 45cm Bentley instead.
Does it match the Sutton Lamp Table?
Yes. It has the same leg shape, the same finish and the same organic top. The lamp table is 50 x 40cm and 50cm tall.
Is the wood solid?
Yes, it’s solid mango, not veneer.
How heavy is it?
About 15kg. One person can lift it, but take care with the 120cm length in doorways.
Will it mark?
Like any solid timber, it can. Use coasters, and blot spills rather than rubbing them.
