A square coffee table solves a problem a rectangular one cannot. If your seating faces inward from two or three sides — an L-shaped corner group, or a sofa with chairs opposite — a rectangle always favours one side. A square is equally reachable from all of them.

At 80 by 80 centimetres the Remy is a genuine square rather than a near-one, in solid mango wood with a warm natural finish. The grain runs across the top rather than along it, which is what stops a square top reading as a slab.

Getting the size right

Square tables suit rooms where seating wraps a corner. Alongside a straight three seater an 80cm square can look undersized — a 120cm rectangle is usually the better answer there. Leave 40 to 45cm between the seat edge and the table.

At 40cm high it sits low, which works with deeper sofas and a relaxed room.
