Casey Coffee Table

The Casey is the largest piece in a range built around organic shapes — no straight edges, no square corners, and legs cut as sculpted forms rather than assembled from parts. At 120 by 70 centimetres the oval top is generous, and because it is an oval rather than a rectangle it sits comfortably in a room where seating wraps round it.

Two finishes, and they do genuinely different jobs. Almond is the natural pale mango, warm and open-grained, and it lifts a dark room. Black is a deep opaque finish where the grain reads as texture rather than pattern — it gives the shape a harder outline, which suits a pale room that needs an anchor.

Why the shape matters

An oval coffee table has no corner to walk into. In a room where the route from the door to the sofa passes the table — which is most rooms — that is a practical advantage rather than a stylistic one, and it is the reason oval and round tables sell into homes with small children.

It also means the table reads as smaller than it is. A 120cm rectangle dominates a room; a 120cm oval of the same footprint does not.

Getting the size right

Aim for a table roughly two thirds the length of your sofa. At 120cm the Casey suits a three seater or a large two. Leave 40 to 45cm between the seat edge and the table, and at 40cm high it sits just below most sofa seats.
