The Kudl Pilot is a cabin bed with desk and bookcase built into one frame. For a single bedroom that has to work as a bedroom and a place to do homework, it does the job of three separate pieces of furniture in roughly the footprint of one.

The sleeping platform sits low enough to suit a wide age range — there is no ladder and no high-sleeper height to worry about — with the desk and open bookcase built into the frame alongside it. The desk surface is deep enough for a laptop and an A4 pad side by side, and the open shelving takes school folders upright rather than stacked.

Surfaces are finished in a durable wipe-clean material with thickened edging, which is the part that usually fails first on children’s furniture.

• Mattress required: any standard UK single 3ft, W 90 × L 190 cm

At 137 cm wide this is a wider footprint than a plain single, because the desk and bookcase sit within the frame rather than beside it.

Worth knowing before you order

• The mattress is not included. Any UK 3ft single will fit.
• The desk and bookcase are in fixed positions and cannot be swapped to the other side. Check which way round suits your room before ordering — this is the single most common reason this bed goes back.
• Wipe-clean finish with reinforced edging.
• Supplied flat packed for home assembly, with fittings and instructions included.
