That clearance takes a desk, a chest of drawers or a pair of storage boxes with room to spare, and Kidsaw make a matching desk and three-drawer chest sized for the gap. Used that way the bed replaces the furniture that would otherwise line the walls, which is the whole argument for a mid sleeper in a small room.

Solid slats let air move through the mattress, which matters more than it sounds — a mattress on a closed base holds moisture and wears out faster.
