Description
The Berkeley is a bench sofa bed by Kyoto: a 200cm-wide, three-seat sofa with a single bench cushion that drops flat into a bed with a click clack mechanism. It suits living rooms, studies and guest rooms where you want a proper sofa every day and a spare bed a few times a year. It comes in two textured weaves: Zeus Burnt Orange and Zeus Taupe.
Why choose a bench sofa bed
A bench seat is one long cushion instead of two or three separate ones. When the Berkeley folds flat there are no gaps between seat cushions under the sleeper, and the clean, straight seat line looks smarter in a modern room. The click clack action needs no separate mattress to unfold: lift the seat until it clicks, then lower the back down to lie flat. To return it to a sofa, lift again and push back.
Kyoto builds the Berkeley on a solid wood frame, and the supplier describes it as hand-built in England. The upholstered seat is cushioned for everyday sitting, so this is a sofa first and an occasional guest bed second.
