Apley Rosie Chair

Description

Rosie chair: a compact scroll-arm armchair in soft luxe chenille

The Rosie chair is a small armchair with a traditional outline: a softly winged back, rounded scroll arms that curl outwards at the front, a deep box seat cushion and four tapered wooden legs in a warm walnut tone. It is upholstered all over in Luxe Chenille, a plush fabric with a gentle sheen that changes slightly as the light moves across it, so the chair looks rich without being fussy.

At 76cm wide it is narrower than most armchairs, which makes it easy to place in a bay window, a bedroom corner, a reading nook or beside a fireplace. It comes in three colours, Navy, Olive and Toffee, and all three are in stock with Kyoto.

Design and comfort

The back rises to 84cm with a slight wing at each shoulder, which frames your head and shoulders and gives the chair its cosy, enveloping feel. The seat cushion is thick and box-edged, sitting on a fully upholstered base, and the arms are padded and rounded so you can rest your elbows or curl up sideways. The seat height is comfortably upright, so it is as good for a cup of tea or a phone call as for an evening with a book.

The wooden legs lift the chair clear of the floor, which keeps it looking light in a small room and makes it easy to vacuum underneath. At 15kg it is light enough for one person to move.

Choose your colour

• Navy Luxe Chenille: a deep, inky blue that suits a classic sitting room, a study or a bedroom with white or cream walls. It pairs well with brass, oak and botanical prints.
• Olive Luxe Chenille: a soft moss-green with a warm undertone. It brings a natural, calming colour into a room and works beautifully with stone, sage, terracotta and natural wood.
• Toffee Luxe Chenille: a warm caramel-rust that glows in lamplight. It adds an autumnal pop against cream, grey or navy, and matches the Toffee option on the Bonnie armless accent chair.

To care for Luxe Chenille, vacuum regularly with a soft upholstery brush, keep the chair out of strong direct sunlight to protect the colour, and blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing. Plump the seat cushion now and then to keep its shape.

Where it works

• Living room: an occasional chair beside a sofa, or a matching pair either side of a fireplace or coffee table.
• Bedroom: a comfortable place to sit by a window or at the foot of the bed.
• Reading corner: with a floor lamp and a small side table such as the Remy lamp table.
• Hallway or landing: where a full-size armchair would be too wide.
