A first bed should be simple, safe and easy to keep clean. The Kidsaw Freshtec Starter Foam Toddler Mattress is all three. It is a 10 cm deep, 140 x 70 cm foam mattress for cot beds and junior toddler beds, with a zip-off cover that goes in the washing machine, which matters more than anything else in the potty-training years.

The core is combustion modified high resilience (CMHR) foam. It gives an even, supportive surface that springs back into shape, and it meets the UK ignition regulations for furniture without antimony, phosphorus or arsenic fire retardant chemicals. The breathable corovin cover is fully overlocked at the seams, anti dust mite and hypoallergenic.

Made in the UK, it is the lightest and simplest mattress in our Kidsaw toddler range: a sensible, good value choice for a cot bed, a spare toddler bed at a grandparent’s house, or the first few years in a junior bed.

Which beds does it fit?

It fits any cot bed or junior toddler bed that takes a standard 140 x 70 cm mattress, including the Kidsaw toddler beds in our range, such as the Fire Engine, Tractor and Teepee toddler beds. The mattress should sit snugly inside the frame with no gaps around the edges; if you can fit more than two fingers between the mattress and the side of the bed, the mattress is too small for that bed.

Safe sleep tips

Young children should sleep on a firm, flat, clean mattress that fits the bed well. Keep the bed clear of pillows and loose bedding for younger toddlers, and buy a new mattress for each child rather than reusing a second-hand one, which may have lost its shape.

Care

Unzip the cover and hand wash it, or machine wash on a gentle cycle at up to 60 degrees with a mild detergent, then rinse well and let it dry completely before refitting. Air the mattress and bedding as often as you can, and turn and rotate the mattress regularly so it wears evenly. A breathable waterproof protector is a good idea while your child is potty training.
