Description
For the child who waves at every tractor on the school run, this is the bed. The Kidsaw Tractor Toddler Bed is shaped like a friendly green farm tractor, complete with a smiling cab at the head end, chunky black tyres with yellow hubs and a grille at the foot. It turns bedtime from a battle into something to look forward to, and makes the move out of the cot feel like a promotion rather than a change.
The graphics are screen printed onto a painted finish, so the colours stay bright and the surface wipes clean. The sides are high, which helps keep a wriggly sleeper on the mattress, with a lower opening along one side so your child can climb in and out independently. The bed sits low to the floor, so there is no distance to tumble.
Why it works as a first bed
- High protective sides: the tractor panels wrap around the mattress for a secure, cosy feel.
- Low and easy to climb into: encourages independence without a long drop.
- Uses the cot bed mattress size: takes a standard 140 x 70 cm cot bed / toddler mattress, so you may be able to reuse the mattress from a cot bed.
- Slot-together build: the panels slot together like a jigsaw; screws are only needed for the slats.
- Bright, durable finish: screen printed graphics over paint, easy to wipe down.
- Ages 2 to 6: sized for toddlers and pre-schoolers.
Size and fit
The bed measures 150 cm long, 83.5 cm wide and 72 cm high at the cab. That is a little longer than a cot, so it fits comfortably in most nurseries and small second bedrooms. Sitting low, it also works well under a window or in a sloping-ceiling room.
Choosing a mattress
The mattress is not included. You need a 140 x 70 cm cot bed, toddler or junior mattress. We show several in-stock toddler mattresses on this page, including foam-free sprung, anti-allergy and waterproof options, which are useful while children are coming out of night-time nappies.
Assembly and care
The tractor bed arrives flat packed. The side and end panels slot together, then the slats are screwed in, so most parents finish it in well under an hour. Check the slats are secure from time to time. Wipe the printed panels with a soft, damp cloth and dry them; avoid bleach and abrasive cleaners, which can dull the graphics.
