Description
The Emerson Ottoman Bed is a super king upholstered storage bed by Kyoto. Its tall headboard is stitched with clean vertical lines. Underneath sits a full-size ottoman store on gas-assisted lifts, so the space under a 6ft bed holds spare duvets, winter bedding and suitcases instead of collecting dust. It is offered in three fabrics: Athena Grey velvet, Athena Ink velvet and Neptune Grey faux wool. All three sit on slim black feet.
Why choose the Emerson
Most of a super king’s footprint is wasted floor. The Emerson turns that 2 x 2 metre area into storage you can reach in seconds. Lift the slatted platform on its gas struts and the whole base opens. There are no drawers to clear and no side gap to leave free for them. Kyoto build it as a multi-lift frame: you decide at assembly whether the platform opens from the foot end or from the side. That makes it easy to fit in a room where one side of the bed sits against a wall or a wardrobe.
The headboard stands 137cm tall, well clear of a deep mattress and a stack of pillows, and its linear stitching gives the bed a tailored, hotel-style look. The low footboard keeps the frame from looking bulky at the end of the bed. In a smaller super king room, that matters more than you might expect.
Choosing your fabric
- Athena Grey Velvet: a soft mid-grey velvet with a gentle sheen. It goes with white, oak and most bedroom palettes.
- Athena Ink Velvet: a deep blue-black velvet. It works as a statement piece against pale walls or in a darker, moodier scheme.
- Neptune Grey Faux Wool: a textured, matt weave that feels warm and wintery and hides everyday marks well.

Size and mattress fit
The Emerson is a UK super king and takes a standard 180 x 200cm (6ft) mattress. Kyoto quote the sleeping area as 182 x 202cm, which leaves a little working room for bedding. The maximum recommended mattress weight is 60kg. That covers almost every pocket sprung, hybrid and memory foam super king. The mattress is not included. Living with an ottoman bed
Gas struts carry most of the platform’s weight, but the lift still raises the mattress with it, so a heavy mattress takes a firmer pull. Leave around 60cm clear at the opening side (foot or side) so the platform can rise fully. Vacuum the store now and then. A bed base collects dust, and the store stays fresher if it is kept clean. Brush velvet lightly in one direction to keep the pile even.

Delivery is free to mainland England and Wales, including Anglesey, and normally takes 7 to 10 working days. We do not deliver to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight or the Isles of Scilly. Please measure your stairs, landings and doorways before you order. That matters most for a bed frame or chair that arrives in large boxes.

What size mattress fits the Emerson Ottoman Bed?

Does the Emerson open from the side or the end?
Either. It is a multi-lift frame, so during assembly you choose whether the platform lifts from the foot end or from one side. Side-lift suits rooms where there is little space at the foot of the bed.
Is the Emerson available in double or king size?
No. Kyoto now make the Emerson in super king only, so that is the only size we sell.
How heavy can the mattress be?
Kyoto recommend a maximum mattress weight of 60kg on the super king. Most super king mattresses weigh well under that.
Is it hard to assemble?
