Harlem Channel-Stitched Velvet Sofa Range

The Harlem is a deep, soft sofa range built from rounded, quilted channels. The back, the seat and the arms are all made of plump padded sections, so it reads as one generous, sculpted shape rather than a frame with cushions laid on top. It is upholstered in a velvet with a light sheen that shifts in tone as you move past it, and it stands on short dark wooden feet.

The range comes as a 3 Seater, a 2 Seater, a matching Chair and a Stool, so you can furnish a whole room in one style or add a single statement piece. Choose Steel, a cool silver-grey that suits monochrome and Scandinavian schemes, or Chocolate, a rich brown that works with walnut, brass and warm whites. The Chocolate Stool is currently unavailable from the maker; every other piece can be ordered in both colours.

What makes the Harlem stand out

• Sculpted channels. The padded sections give the Harlem its tailored, architectural shape, and it looks good from every side, so it can float in the middle of a room.
• Deep seat. At 64cm, the seat depth is generous: there is room to tuck your feet up.
• Wide, padded arms. 24cm-wide arms on the sofas are comfortable to lean on or rest a mug on.
• Built for daily use. A wooden frame and high-quality foam padding keep the seat supportive and the shape crisp.

Choosing the right size

The 3 Seater needs a clear wall of about 2.4m to sit comfortably with space either side; the 2 Seater fits a wall of around 1.7m, which makes it the better choice for a snug, a bay window or a flat. Because the Harlem is 95cm deep, allow about 45cm in front for a coffee table and legroom. A classic layout is the 3 Seater along the main wall with the Chair at right angles and the Stool used as a footrest or extra seat. Mark each footprint on the floor with masking tape, and measure your front door, hall and any stair turns before ordering.

Caring for velvet

Brush the pile gently in one direction with a soft upholstery brush to keep the sheen even. Blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth and never rub. Keep the sofa out of long spells of direct sun. Light marks in the pile (“bruising”) are natural to velvet and usually brush out.

222cm wide, 95cm deep and 75cm high, with a 170cm-wide seat. The 2 Seater is 155cm wide and the Chair is 106cm wide.

Can I buy the pieces separately?
Yes. Choose the 3 Seater, 2 Seater, Chair or Stool from the options above, and add as many as you need.

How comfortable is the seat?
The padded seat sits at 43cm on the sofas and 45cm on the Chair, with a 64cm-deep seat on the sofas. That makes it a relaxed, sink-in sit rather than an upright one.

Is velvet hard to keep clean?
Less than people expect. A weekly brush and quick blotting of spills keep it looking good, and Chocolate is the more forgiving shade for a busy home.
