The Jay-Be TC80 Tourist Folding Bed is a full-height 80 cm single made for the kind of use that wears ordinary folding beds out: holiday lets, B&Bs, guest houses, student lets and homes where the spare bed comes out every other weekend. It is supplied with a Contract mattress that passes the BS 7177 medium-hazard fire test, Source 5 (sometimes called crib 5), which is the standard expected of mattresses in hotels and other commercial accommodation.

Open, it gives an adult a proper 80 × 194 cm bed at a comfortable 40 cm to the top of the mattress, the same easy sitting height as the Jay-Be Rollaway and Grand. Folded, it stands upright on its castors at just 24 cm deep, with the mattress stored inside the frame.

Built to last

The frame is zinc-coated galvanised steel, so it resists rust in damp storerooms and outbuildings. Underneath the mattress is Jay-Be’s Mono-Tex™ platform: a tight woven base that supports the mattress evenly and does not stretch or sag the way springs and webbing can. J-Grip™ anti-tip legs keep the bed planted when a guest sits on the edge, and the bed is rated to carry up to 160 kg. It exceeds the British and European folding-bed safety standard BS EN 1725 and carries Jay-Be’s lifetime frame guarantee.

The headboard is FSC Mix-certified wood and keeps pillows on the bed. 360° foot-locking castors make it easy to wheel the folded bed to a cupboard, and keep it still once it is open.

The Contract mattress

The mattress is approximately 190 × 73 × 10 cm with a deep, breathable e-Fibre™ core, Jay-Be’s foam-free fibre filling, between layers of durable woven fabric, all inside a hard-wearing high-performance cover. Its cover fabric is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified and the materials are hypoallergenic. Because it contains no foam, it stays fresher in storage and sleeps cooler than a foam guest mattress.

Opening and folding

The TC80 uses Jay-Be’s patented folding mechanism, so one person can open it in seconds. The mattress stays on the frame when it folds, so there is nothing to carry separately: unfold it, add bedding and it is ready.

Options

Choose the bed on its own, or add Jay-Be’s fitted storage cover, a waterproof mattress protector, or both. The storage cover keeps dust off the folded bed between visits; the protector is the sensible choice for holiday lets and children’s sleepovers.

How the Tourist compares

Free delivery to mainland England and mainland Wales, including Anglesey, by courier to your door. The bed arrives assembled with the mattress fitted. We do not deliver to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight or the Isles of Scilly.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Tourist suitable for a holiday let or guest house?

Yes. That is what it is designed for. The mattress meets BS 7177 medium hazard (Source 5), the fire standard normally required for beds in commercial accommodation, and the steel frame is built for frequent use.

Can an adult sleep on it?

Yes. It is 194 cm long, 80 cm wide and rated to 160 kg, so it suits most adults for short and longer stays.

How much room does it take up when folded?

About 80 cm wide, 24 cm deep and 118 cm high. It rolls on its castors, so you can wheel it into a cupboard rather than carry it.

What is the difference between the Tourist and the Rollaway?

The frames are the same size and height. The Tourist comes with the fire-rated Contract mattress for commercial use; the Rollaway has a domestic e-Fibre™ mattress and costs less.

Can I add a protector or storage cover later?

The easiest way is to choose an option above when you order, so it arrives with the bed. The options are a storage cover, a waterproof mattress protector, or both.
