The Jay-Be Benchmark S5 Hybrid is the mattress in the Benchmark range that gives you two spring systems in one. A layer of small Micro e-Pocket™ springs sits just under the comfort fillings and reacts to each part of your body on its own, while a Deep e-Spring™ core underneath spreads your weight evenly across the whole mattress. You get the close, responsive feel people usually buy memory foam for, without any foam at all. It is made in the UK, arrives vacuum-packed and rolled, and Jay-Be now backs it with a 10-year manufacturer guarantee.
What is inside, layer by layer
- Quilted knitted cover – soft to the touch, made with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified fabric.
- Advance e-Fibre™ – a fine, soft fibre layer for comfort at the surface. Jay-Be’s life-cycle figures for Advance e-Fibre™, compared with cotton, show large cuts in CO2, water and land use.
- Rebound e-Fibre™ – a springier fibre that follows your shape and recovers quickly when you turn over.
- Micro e-Pocket™ springs – small individually pocketed springs that respond independently, so shoulders and hips are supported separately.
- High-density eco insulator – separates the two spring layers and keeps the coils from being felt.
- Deep e-Spring™ core – the main support unit, spreading load evenly from head to foot.
- High-density e-Fibre™ base – a firm foundation layer under the springs.
- Padded border and side handles – a firmer edge that lasts longer, and handles to make rotating the mattress easier.
Because every filling is fibre, air moves through the open-cell structure and moisture can escape, so the S5 sleeps cooler and fresher than a solid foam mattress. The fire-retardant treatment is salt-based, the materials are hypoallergenic and odourless, and Jay-Be states they are vegan-friendly, with no animal-derived materials.

The Benchmark S1 is the entry model, with a sprung core and fibre layers only. The Benchmark S3 adds a Memory e-Fibre™ layer for a softer, more contouring top (it is foam-free too, despite the “memory” name). The S5 is the first in the range with pocket springs as well as the main core. The Benchmark S7 Tri-brid goes a step further with an extra memory fibre layer and a deeper build. For most people choosing between them, the S5 is the best balance of support and price.

Unpacking and care
Take the roll to the bedroom and place it on the bed before opening, as it expands quickly. Remove the wrapping carefully so you do not nick the cover. It takes its shape within minutes but give it a day or two in a ventilated room before judging the feel. Rotate it head to foot every few weeks for the first three months, then every couple of months. A breathable mattress protector keeps it clean.
Delivery
Free delivery to mainland England and mainland Wales, including Anglesey, by courier to your door. The rolled pack is compact, so it fits through narrow doorways and up tight stairs. We do not deliver to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight or the Isles of Scilly.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Benchmark S5 a pocket sprung mattress?
It is a hybrid. It has a layer of Micro e-Pocket™ pocketed springs on top of a Deep e-Spring™ support core, so you get pocket-spring responsiveness with the even support of a full spring unit underneath.
Does it contain memory foam?
No. The S5 is 100% foam-free. All of the comfort layers are fibre, which is cooler and more breathable than foam.
How long is the guarantee?
Jay-Be gives a 10-year manufacturer guarantee on the Benchmark S5. Older listings, including ours, used to say 5 years; Jay-Be has since extended it.
Do I need to flip it?
No. It is a one-sided, non-flip mattress. Just rotate it head to foot regularly so it wears evenly.
Can I use it on an ottoman or divan?
Yes. It suits any standard UK bed frame, divan or ottoman of the matching size, sprung or slatted. It is too deep for bunk beds and high sleepers.
