Arms that curve all the way round

The Cuddle is named for what its arms do. Rather than stopping at the side, they sweep round and meet the seat, so the chair forms a continuous curve with no hard edges and no visible joins. Sitting in one, the effect is enclosing — you are held by the chair rather than perched on it.

It is a shape that works hardest in a room that is otherwise rectangular. Set against a straight-lined sofa, a square coffee table or a run of fitted units, a fully curved chair does the job a lamp or a plant cannot: it softens the geometry of the whole room.

Cream boucle

Boucle is a looped yarn, so the pile is dense and textured rather than smooth. In cream that texture is what stops the chair reading as flat or clinical — the loops shade themselves, giving depth to a pale colour that a flat weave would not have.

Compact enough to actually fit

At 80cm wide and 75cm deep this is a chair you can put in a bedroom corner, a bay window or beside a fireplace without losing the walkway. The 70cm height keeps it low, so it does not interrupt sightlines, and the 60cm seat depth is deep enough to curl up in.

Living with bouclé

Bouclé is a looped yarn, which is what gives it that soft, nubbly surface. Two things follow from that. It is forgiving — the texture hides light marks and creasing far better than a flat weave. And it is snag-prone — a claw or a sharp zip can pull a loop out of line.

If a loop does pull, do not cut it. Ease it back into the weave with a blunt needle or the tip of a pen. Vacuum with a soft brush head rather than a beater bar, which is what tugs loops loose in the first place.

Where a cuddle chair fits

A cuddle chair is wider than an armchair and narrower than a two seater — roughly a seat and a half. It works where a full sofa would crowd the room but a single chair would look mean: a bay window, the corner opposite a fireplace, or as the second seat beside a three seater instead of a matching two.

In cream it lifts a dark room, and it is the piece people photograph. It is also the piece that shows a spilled glass of red wine, so keep a fabric protector on it.

Delivered free to mainland England and Wales. We do not currently deliver to the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland or the offshore islands. Large upholstery is delivered in sections wherever the design allows, which makes a narrow hallway or a turn on the stairs far less of a problem.
