Description
The Murray: a modern chesterfield in putty bouclé
The Murray takes the two things people love about a chesterfield, the deep buttoning and the sense of being properly held by the arms, and strips away the scrolls, studs and leather that make a traditional chesterfield feel formal. What is left is a squared, low-slung sofa upholstered in a heavy-weave putty bouclé, with a grid of stitched buttoning running across the back, the arms and the seat. It reads as tailored rather than fussy, and it sits as comfortably in a new-build living room as it does in a Victorian terrace.
Built around wide, boxy arms
The arms are the Murray’s signature. They are 25cm wide and rise to the full 71cm height of the back, so the sofa has a solid, enclosed outline from every angle. That width is practical too: there is room to rest a mug or a book on the arm, and when you lean into the corner you are leaning against a broad padded block rather than a thin edge. Contrast piping traces the outline of each arm and the back, which is what gives the shape its crisp, drawn look.
A continuous tufted seat
Instead of separate seat cushions with gaps between them, each section of the Murray has one tufted seat that runs edge to edge. Nobody ends up perched on the join between two cushions, and the buttoned surface keeps its shape rather than slumping into individual dips over time. The seat sits 45cm from the floor with 66cm of usable depth, which suits most adults sitting upright and leaves enough room to tuck your feet up. Loose scatter cushions are supplied for extra back support.
Putty bouclé
Bouclé is woven from looped yarn, so the surface has a soft, nubbly texture rather than a flat face. The putty shade is a warm light grey with a hint of beige: it works with oak, walnut and painted floors, and with both warm and cool wall colours. Because the loops break up the surface, everyday marks and creases show far less than they would on a flat-weave fabric of the same colour. The sofa stands on short dark wooden feet that lift it just clear of the floor.
Sizes in the Murray range
The Murray is listed as a 4 seater, a 3 seater, an armchair and a footstool, so you can furnish a whole room in one design. The 4 seater is supplied in two joined sections, which makes it easier to carry through a hallway and up stairs. Availability changes with the supplier’s stock, so the size selector above shows what can be ordered today; anything marked out of stock cannot be bought until it returns.

Frequently asked questions
How big is the Murray 4 seater?
It is 272cm wide, 94cm deep and 71cm high, with a seat height of 45cm. It comes in two sections that join together in the room.
Is the Murray a sofa bed?
No. The Murray is a standard sofa with a fixed tufted seat and does not convert into a bed.
What colour is putty bouclé?
Putty is a warm light grey with a soft beige undertone. It looks lighter in daylight and slightly warmer under lamp light.
Does the armchair match the sofa?
Yes. The armchair uses the same putty bouclé, the same grid buttoning and the same wide arms, so the two sit together as a set.
Do you deliver to Scotland?
No. Delivery is free to mainland England and mainland Wales, including Anglesey. We do not deliver to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight or the Isles of Scilly.
