The Madryt 3 Door Mirrored Sliding Wardrobe 250cm is a full-height bedroom wardrobe with 3 mirrored sliding doors, a double-hanging rail section and open shelving behind. What makes Madryt easy to recognise is the mirror. The middle door is mirrored from edge to edge, and the two outer doors each carry a tall mirror panel with a flowing, wave-cut edge, so the closed wardrobe shows a broad mirrored centre framed by two curved bands of the wood or matt finish. It gives you a full-length dressing mirror without hanging one on the wall, it bounces light from the window back into the room, and the curve softens what would otherwise be a plain rectangular block of furniture. Silver bar handles run down the outer edges of the doors.

Who it suits

The largest Madryt replaces two separate wardrobes along one wall. It is built for a large main bedroom, a loft conversion with full standing height, or a couple who need serious storage, with wide shelf columns that take stacks of jumpers, bedding or storage boxes.

Choosing a finish

Oak Artisan is a warm, honey-toned oak effect with visible knots and grain, the closest of the four to a rustic or Scandinavian scheme. Oak Sonoma is a paler, sandier oak with a straighter grain that sits well with grey or cream walls and white bedding. White Matt is the brightest choice and lets the wardrobe recede against a pale wall, which helps in a small room. Black Matt turns the wardrobe into a feature, and the mirror stands out strongly against it. Storage inside

Inside there is a central hanging bay about 110cm wide with a column of open shelves about 66.5cm wide on each side. The hanging bay is double-hung: an upper rail and a lower rail, each with about 93.5cm of drop, separated by a shelf. That doubles the rail length for shirts, blouses, jackets, folded trousers and skirts. It does not give a single full-length drop, so long dresses and full-length coats are better kept elsewhere. The shelf compartments are about 37.5cm high, which suits stacks of jumpers, t-shirts, towels or shoe boxes, and the usable depth is about 48cm. Three doors run on the tracks, so you can open any one third of the front at a time; the middle door gives direct access to the hanging bay without moving the outer doors. Some photos in the gallery show two small drawers fitted into the shelf column. Measuring up

Allow a clear wall of at least 252cm so the frame does not rub the skirting or a side wall, and check that nothing on the wall (sockets, a radiator, a window board) sits within the 62cm depth. Because the doors slide on tracks you need no swing space in front, only room to stand. The wardrobe is built lying on its back and then lifted upright; its diagonal is about 210cm, so the ceiling must be at least 2.1m. Arte-N give the weight as about 190kg. Plan for two adults to assemble it, and fix it to the wall with fixings that suit your wall type.

Build and care

The carcass and doors are 16mm laminated board with PVC-finished edges, which protects the board from knocks and moisture along the edges. The mirrors are fitted to the door panels at the factory. Clean the laminate with a slightly damp, soft cloth and dry it straight away; clean the mirrors with ordinary glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth rather than the door. Keep the floor track free of fluff and hair so the doors keep running smoothly, and check the door adjusters a few weeks after assembly once the wardrobe has settled.
