Description

The Halle Ottoman Bed is an ottoman storage bed — the base lifts on a gas-strut or slatted mechanism to give you the whole footprint of the bed as storage. In a bedroom that has run out of cupboards, that is the largest single volume you can recover without building anything.

Arte-N build in Europe from 16mm laminated board and ship direct, which is why the range runs to hundreds of pieces and why the lead time is three to five weeks rather than next day. This one comes in Oak Wotan and Black.

Will it fit

At 94cm high it sits between worktop and chest height, which keeps the top usable. It occupies 168cm of wall and stands 209cm off it.

Measure the route in as well as the room. Flat-packed cartons are long and rigid, and what stops a delivery is almost always a narrow hallway, the turn at the bottom of the stairs or a tight landing — not the room it is going into.

Important — European bed size

This frame takes a 160 x 200cm mattress. A UK king mattress is 150 x 200cm — 10cm narrower than this frame needs. A UK mattress of the same name will not fit properly. Measure any mattress you already own before ordering; if you need one, tell us and we will match a European size to the frame.

About laminated board furniture

Arte-N build from 16mm and 22mm laminated board — a dense engineered core with a printed, sealed surface. It is what most modern European furniture is made from, and for good reason: it does not warp with humidity the way solid timber can, it takes a consistent finish across a whole range so pieces bought a year apart still match, and it keeps the price where it is.

What it is not is solid wood. Treat the edges with some respect during assembly, do not stand it in standing water, and it will outlast most of what else is in the room.

Looking after it

• Wipe with a damp cloth and dry it off — no solvents, no abrasive creams.
• Stand heavy items over a support, not in the middle of a long shelf span.
• Check and nip up the fixings after the first few weeks. Every flat-pack piece settles, and ten minutes then prevents a wobble later.
• Keep it out of the direct path of a radiator; sustained dry heat is harder on laminate edges than damp is.

At 110kg this is a two-person lift. Please arrange help for the day and check your doorways and stair turns before ordering.

Does it come assembled?

No. It arrives flat packed with fittings and instructions. At 110kg you will want a second pair of hands to stand it upright.

Is a mattress included?

No — this is a frame only. Tell us the size you need and we will match one to it.

How do I know it will get into the room?

Measure the narrowest point of the route rather than the room. If you are unsure, send us the measurements and we will tell you honestly whether it will go.

Why three to five weeks?

Arte-N build in Europe and ship direct rather than holding UK stock. That is the trade-off for a range this wide and prices at this level.

Can I see the finish first?

Ask us. Laminated finishes — the oak effects especially — photograph differently from how they look in a room, and we would rather answer a question now than take a return later.
