120cm wide sliding-door wardrobe, 235cm tall, with 2 hanging rails and 6 shelves. Flat packed, delivered across mainland England and Wales.

Description

The Dakota IX Sliding Door Wardrobe 120cm is a 120cm wide sliding-door wardrobe standing 235cm tall and 60cm deep. It carries two sliding doors, at least one of them mirrored, across the front, and behind them two hanging rails and six shelves.

Because the doors slide rather than swing, nothing has to be left clear in front of it. That makes this a sensible choice for a room where the bed, a radiator or a chimney breast sits close to the wardrobe wall and a hinged door simply would not open. The finish is Cashmere. At this height the rail is set to take full-length garments rather than only shirts and jackets.

Those are the assembled dimensions. Before you order, measure the route the cartons have to travel as well as the wall they are going against: the front door, any turn on the stairs, the landing and the bedroom doorway. A 120cm wardrobe is normally the widest thing that will go into a room’s upstairs, and once it is built it cannot be tipped through a tight turn.

Allow a little over the 235cm height when you check the ceiling. The unit has to be stood upright during assembly, so you need slightly more clearance than the finished height, and few ceilings are perfectly level.

Planning it into the room

Sliding doors are the reason to choose a unit like this in a normal-sized British bedroom. A hinged door needs roughly its own width in clear floor to open; sliding doors need none, so the wardrobe can sit directly opposite a bed or beside a doorway. The trade-off is that one section is always covered, so you reach about half the interior at a time.

At 60cm deep it is built for garments to hang across the wardrobe front to back, which is the depth a coat hanger needs to sit square rather than at an angle. Leave a few centimetres behind the unit if your skirting board is deep, and make sure the floor is level before you build: a wardrobe this tall shows a twist in the frame as a door that will not sit flush.

Delivery

We deliver this wardrobe to mainland England and Wales. We do not currently deliver to the Scottish Highlands, the Scottish islands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight or the Channel Islands.

It arrives flat-packed and weighs 100kg in total, so it comes in more than one carton and needs two people to carry and to assemble. Current lead time is 3 – 4 Weeks from order. Delivery is to the room of your choice where the route allows it; please have the space clear before the delivery arrives.

Questions we get asked

Will my coats and dresses hang full length in it?

Yes. At 235cm overall this is a tall wardrobe, and a full-height hanging section in a unit this size takes floor-length coats and dresses without them touching the base. The top panel and the rail fixing take some of that 235cm, so measure your longest garment and compare it against the internal drop rather than the external height.

How much clearance does it need?

None in front. Sliding doors run on a track within the frame, so no clear floor is needed for a door swing. That is the main practical reason to pick sliding over hinged in a smaller room. You do need the full 120cm of wall width, because the doors slide across the opening rather than beyond it.

Does it come assembled?

No. It is supplied flat-packed with instructions and fixings, and at 100kg it is split across more than one carton. Two people are needed for carrying and for assembly, mostly because the side and back panels are large and awkward rather than because they are heavy. Build it close to where it will stand: once assembled, a wardrobe this size will not go round a tight turn.

What is the interior layout?

As supplied it has 2 hanging rails and 6 shelves. Shelf positions are set by the pre-drilled panels, so plan around the configuration shown rather than assuming it can be rearranged freely. If you want more hanging and less shelving, check the feature list above: on several wardrobes in this range an additional rail can be bought separately and fitted in place of shelves.
