Description

The Alicante III 6 Door Full Mirror Hinged Wardrobe 300cm is the Alicante wardrobe with a mirror on every one of its six doors. Close it and the whole front, 300cm wide and 202cm tall, is one run of full-height mirror glass split by slim black handles. It suits a large main bedroom or a dressing room, and it replaces both a wardrobe and a full-length mirror in one piece of furniture.

Behind the mirrors is the same proven Alicante carcass as the plain and single-mirror versions: two wide bays about 97cm across and two narrow bays about 48cm across, a shelf compartment at the top of each bay and a hanging rail with about 161cm of drop. Every door closes on a soft-close hinge. The carcass comes in Oak Artisan, White Matt, Black Matt, Cashmere or Warm Walnut.

Why choose a full mirror front

A mirrored wall does more for a bedroom than any other wardrobe front. It reflects the window, so daylight reaches further into the room, and it doubles the visual depth of the space, which is why a 300cm run of mirror can make a modest bedroom read as noticeably bigger. You can also dress in front of any door, not just one, which matters when two people get ready at the same time. Where the colour shows

Because the doors are mirror glass, the finish you choose shows on the sides, the top and the narrow frame around the doors rather than across the front. That makes the colour choice about the edges and how the wardrobe sits beside your other furniture. Oak Artisan gives a warm, knotty wood edge that softens all that glass. White Matt almost disappears against a white wall, leaving the mirror as the feature. Black Matt frames the mirrors sharply and suits a hotel-style room with brass lamps. Cashmere is a soft grey-beige for cream and stone schemes. Warm Walnut is a deep brown wood effect for a classic or mid-century room, and costs a little more than the other four. All are low-sheen laminates that shrug off fingerprints.

Storage inside

Inside there are two wide bays about 97cm across and two narrow bays about 48cm across. At the top of each bay is a shelf compartment about 34cm high for stacked jumpers, bags or spare bedding, and below it a hanging rail with about 161cm of drop, enough for long coats and most maxi dresses without them creasing on the base. That gives about 290.4cm of rail in total, or roughly 120 to 140 shirts, jackets and dresses on slim hangers, with the base free for shoes or storage boxes. The narrow bay is a good home for long coats or a partner’s side of the wardrobe. Arte-N sell extra shelves separately if you want to split a bay into folded storage.

Measuring up

The wardrobe is 300cm wide, 52cm deep and 202cm high. Arte-N’s drawing shows a 50cm-deep cabinet; the doors and handles add the last 2cm, and that depth takes a standard adult hanger square-on. Each door is about 50cm wide, so keep around 55cm of clear floor in front. A mirror is most useful with a metre or more of standing room, so it works best facing the bed or a window rather than in a tight alcove. The wardrobe is built lying down and then stood up; the side diagonal is about 208cm, so the ceiling must be at least 2.1m. It is supplied as two 150cm cabinets that stand side by side and weighs about 200kg in total once assembled. Mirror doors are heavy, so allow two adults for the build and fix the cabinets to the wall with fixings that suit your wall.

Living with mirror doors

Clean the glass with a little glass cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth, never straight onto the mirror, so no liquid creeps into the door edge. Wipe the laminate with a slightly damp cloth and dry it; avoid bleach, solvents and scouring pads. A few weeks after assembly, check the hinges: each soft-close hinge has small adjustment screws, and a quarter turn brings a door back into line, which keeps the mirror gaps straight and even.

Alicante III comes in five widths with the same 202cm height, mirror doors and soft-close hinges: 2 door 100cm, 3 door 150cm, 4 door 200cm, 5 door 250cm. Measure the wall including skirting boards and any radiator, and leave about 5cm spare at each end.
