Description

The Alicante I 2 Door Hinged Wardrobe 100cm is the compact member of the Alicante I family: a single full-height cabinet, 100cm wide and 202cm tall, that gives a box room, guest room or teenager’s bedroom proper hanging space without eating the floor. Two flat doors close softly on damped hinges, and a long black bar handle runs down the centre of the front.

It suits one person’s everyday wardrobe, a spare room that has to take visitors’ clothes, or a second wardrobe in a main bedroom for coats and occasion wear. It comes in five finishes: Oak Artisan, White Matt, Black Matt, Cashmere and Warm Walnut.

Design

The Alicante I has no cornice, mouldings or decoration to date it: just flat, full-height doors and slim black aluminium bar handles that run a long way down the door, so they are easy to reach from any height. The handles sit on the edges where doors meet, which gives the front a strong vertical rhythm and makes a room with a standard ceiling feel taller. All edges are finished in PVC, and the doors close quietly on soft-close hinges, which matters in a bedroom where someone may still be asleep.

Five finishes

Oak Artisan is a knotty, honey-toned oak effect for a warm Scandi or rustic room. White Matt is the bright, quiet choice that disappears into a white or pale grey scheme and keeps a small room light. Black Matt makes a bold statement against pale walls and pairs well with brass lamps and natural linen. Cashmere is a soft grey-beige that sits between white and taupe and works with oak floors and cream bedding. Warm Walnut is a rich, mid-brown wood effect for a classic or mid-century bedroom. Every finish is low-sheen, so fingerprints show far less than on gloss. Warm Walnut is priced a little higher than the other four.

Storage inside

Inside there is one wide bay about 97cm across inside. Each bay has a shelf compartment at the top, about 34cm high, for folded jumpers, bags or spare bedding, and a rail below it with about 161cm of hanging height. That is long enough for full-length coats and most maxi dresses, as well as shirts and jackets. A 100cm wardrobe holds roughly 40 to 50 shirts, jackets or dresses on the rail, with jumpers, bags or spare bedding on the shelf above. If you need more folded storage, add a chest of drawers alongside, or choose the 150cm, which adds a second bay.

Size and fit

It measures 100cm wide, 52cm deep and 202cm high (Arte-N’s drawing shows a 50cm-deep cabinet, with the doors and handles bringing it to 52cm). That depth takes a standard adult coat hanger square-on without the clothes brushing the doors. Each door is about 50cm wide, so leave roughly 55cm of clear floor in front for the doors to swing open. The wardrobe is assembled lying on its back and then stood up; the diagonal of the side is about 208cm, so allow a ceiling height of at least 2.1m. The 100cm is supplied as one 100cm cabinet, and weighs about 68kg once built, so assembly is a two-person job. We recommend fixing it to the wall with fixings suited to your wall type.

Looking after it

The laminated board wipes clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth; dry it straight away and avoid abrasive pads, bleach or solvent cleaners, which can mark a matt finish. Spread heavy items across the shelves rather than loading one, and check the hinge screws a few weeks after assembly: soft-close hinges have small adjustment screws, so a door that has dropped slightly can be brought back level in a minute with a screwdriver.

Other sizes

The same Alicante I doors, handles, finishes and 202cm height come in five widths, so you can match the wardrobe to the wall rather than the other way round. Alongside this 100cm version there are the 3 door 150cm, 4 door 200cm, 5 door 250cm, 6 door 300cm. If you are torn between two sizes, measure the wall including skirting and any radiator, and leave about 5cm spare at each side.

The Alicante I 100cm is made to order by Arte-N and the current lead time is 4 to 6 weeks; we confirm a delivery date by email or phone before it leaves the warehouse. It arrives flat-packed in several boxes for self-assembly, so check the boxes will fit through your front door and up the stairs, and allow two adults for the build.
